The domain

Domaine Chevalier was founded in 1850 by Emile Dubois, then run by his daughter and son-in-law, Emile Chevalier later succeeded by their son, Georges.

When in turn, his son Claude became involved in 1975, the estate comprised 11 hectares; in 1994, Claude took over all the winemaking of the domain’s production.

Today, Claude is assisted by his 2 daughters: Chloé for winegrowing and winemaking, Julie for sales and administration. Together, they manage the domain which now comprises 14 hectares with the sole objective of providing the very best wines possible.

  • Interview with Julie Guyot-Chevalier

How you expect a woman to be?

    optimistic at all times.

    Your favourite occupation?

Spending time with family, my children and friends.

Your best souvenir in relation to wine?

Wine itself - the wine of my father and grandfather which inspired my passion for my job.

    Your funniest story?

When I asked my children what they would like to do for a living: “like mother” was their response! Our heritage is secure!

    Your favourite wine

I confess being chauvinistic: Ladoix, premier cru both red and white but I do also appreciate Côte du Rhone.

    Your motto or favourite saying

    Better laugh than cry.

  • Interview with Chloé Chevalier

How you expect a woman to be ?

    be patient.

    Your favourite occupation:?

    The vineyard.

Your best souvenir in relation to wine

A Chapelle Chambertin wine which I tasted when I spent some time training with Perrot Minot.

Your finest moment in relation to wine

In 2007, when I had the honour of sitting at the table of some famous wine collectors at the International Pinot Noir convention in America; I was able to taste with them, a range of vintages from 1941 to 1995 from Cros Parantoux, Clos de la Roche, Romanée Saint Vivant, Montrachet, Yqem - a truly memorable occasion.

    Your funniest story

At the 2009 RVF wine fair when my father introduced me to a man who seemed familiar. Normally I shake hands but in this instance we kissed as if we had known each other for some time; amused, my father asked me if I knew who the man was, to which I replied that it must have been one of our customers in the restaurant business – in fact I was way out, it was Gérard Holz! (very popular and well known French, TV sports commentator).

    Your favourite wine

Corton “Rognet”, grand cru on account of its elegance and red fruit aromas.
