NOUS SOMMES FIERS ET RESPONSABLES. Nous sommes 200 000 personnes qui cultivent et soignent la vigne, récoltent et vinifient les raisins, élevent et commercialisent le vin, le font déguster et le marient avec les mets.

La fierté de faire du vin, de nos métiers, nous la ressentons auprès de tous ceux qui, au-delà de nos frontières, partagent l’amour de notre produit, de notre art de vivre. Et pourtant, le vin n’est pas né en France, mais il a trouvé chez nous un climat idéal, des sols, des hommes, et de plus en plus de femmes, pour le sublimer.

Femmes et vin

Je ne mesure pas bien l’importance que les femmes ont pris depuis que le MLF a envahit la vie politique, la vie tout court. Je me rappelle quelques images d’une Simone Weil hurlant dans le petit écran toute sa passion, toute sa rage, pour un combat que l’on pense d’un autre temps aujourd’hui. La France du XXe siècle va connaître alors deux révolutions : les congés payés et, plus tard, la femme. Je ne me rends pas compte de la dimension de ce combat car j’ai eu la chance d’être élevée par des femmes. Ma mère, mais surtout mes sœurs ont dû quant à elles mesurer le virage pris par cette société qui s’ignorait machiste. Et pourtant. Il aura fallu des années pour que la génération Weil et ses filles obtiennent du pays des Droits de l’homme, des droits de la femme. Et la lutte n’est pas terminée.

Gérard Margeon, the wine man at Ducasse company, asked Anne Parent, Athenais de Béru, Anne-Sophie Debavelaere, Béatrice Dubois and Virginie Taupenot-Daniel to fly to Japan on May 22nd and 23rd 2010, to promote Burgundy on a well-known topic: "women of wine". The five members of the Femmes et Vins de Bourgogne association will represent 16 member estates in Asia. They are invited at Alain Ducasse’s restaurant, "Beige", in Tokyo, to have their wines tasted. This weekend will end with a gastronomic dinner honouring Burgundy wines and women.

In september 2009, Fanny Lorcerie, Dijon University of Burgundy graduate, came to present her final essay called  "Practice of tasting through the learning of terroirs".

"Le Chapitre des roses" is a traditional event in which woman has a place of honour. The wine brotherhood of The Chevaliers du Tastevin decided to associate with the Femmes et Vins de Bourgogne association, so they can get a grasp on this "Chapitre" organized every year in May, at the Clos de Vougeot castle. On saturday may 29th 2010, there will be around twenty women at the Clos’ prestigious hall to highlight the role of woman in viticulture.

Virginie Taupenot-Daniel and Béatrice Dubois accepted an interview with 8th grade pupils at David Niepce Junior High, in Sennecey-le-Grand. Thanks to this article highlighting the Femmes et Vins de Bourgogne association, the pupils won the first prize of a contest organized by ONISEP (department of the french ministry of education) called "Des mots pour un métier", for their documentary on winegrower women. They won the first national prize and a journey for their work, congratulations to them!

On April 25th 2009, the women of Femmes et vins de Bourgogne were host to the women of WOW (Women of Wine), to taste the wines represented within the association: Chablis, Montagny, Mercurey, Rully, Saint-Romain, Auxey-Duresses, Beaune, Nuits-Saint-Georges, Vosne-Romanée… An opportunity for these British women, huge Burgundy wine enthusiasts, to spend some time with the women who make these beautiful wines. The evening ended with a lovely dinner at  Marc Gantier’s Caveau des Arches in Beaune.
